Back in 1924 most streets and even some downtown avenues in Los Angeles were not paved, but compacted dirt roads like you see in the photo of the Hollywood Hills and sign. Gradually the streets were paved in the 1920’s and 1930’s, a few streets weren’t paved until the early 1950’s. -Rj
