I'll just add two things. It was completely disassembled, restored, and reassembled under a new translucent outer dome in 2008. The quote you can see parts of in some of the pictures is "Books are the legacies that a great genius leaves to mankind, which are delivered down from generation to generation as presents to the posterity of those who are yet unborn" ―-Joseph Addison

It is beautiful to behold. Been to many charity events, fundraisers and non profit gatherings there over the years I lived in Chicago.
